Just a reminder that we have Early Dismissal this Wednesday, August 26th.   We will begin dismissing students to our buses just as soon as they arrive, which will be between 12:30 – 12:50.    Car riders and walkers will be dismissed around 12:35 – 12:40.  Be sure to be here no later than 12:55pm for parent pick-up, as all teachers and staff have meetings starting at 1:00pm.  Lunch is served to students, and they will be attending all classes on a shortened schedule.

Week 3 – We are Settling In!

We have arrived at Week 3!  September 9th Student Progress Reports are just around the corner.  Each day we talk about student goals… be sure your child has created at least one goal for his or herself for this year or semester.  It is so important to be thinking about the future… that is what school is all about!  Learning and achieving in the present to create additional opportunities for yourself in the future, whether that be tomorrow, 2 months, or 2 years from now.

Lockers are coming to students this week, as well as Campus Parent Portal (CPP) access for parents.  This will allow parents to view their child’s schedule and daily attendance.  All you need to do is show an ID to pick up your access codes and directions.   This will be available starting at Open House this Thursday night, August 27th.  This is something new for our school, so we will work through this new process together.

This July I was very honored to be selected by Atlanta Public Schools to attend the “Harvard Institute for School Leaders”.  Led by Executive Director Tamara Cotman, our team consisted of middle school principals from Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy, Inman Middle School, Kennedy Middle School and of course Sutton!  We attended classes all day, led by professors from Harvard as well as superintendents and other school leaders from across the country.  In the evenings, we worked on a group project, furthering our work for middle school transformation.  There were 120 participants in this week long institute, so I met principals and district leaders from as far away as Puerto Rico!

For the past few years, I have attempted to start a blog.  With technical access and time constraints, this goal continued to elude me.  However, I have been inspired by our teachers and students who have used this technology to improve their communications and share information.  I want to join the journey with them and will learn as I go!
